It's summer, and as Minnesotans, we all look forward to the breaks that we take from our usual routines. I hope that you get a chance to rest and relax and enjoy some summertime fun with your family.
We’re also reminded that the Lord is always inviting us to rest in Him. It’s not that He has nothing for us to do, and just wants us to do nothing, but rather He wants our lives to be re-invigorated in His love. He desires for us to live in his grace, in his peace. How often do we race about in life, trying to do this, and that, and sometimes even stressing about vacations! We can find ourselves worn out by stressing about all kinds of things that may not be what the Lord wants of us. He ultimately wants us to spend time with Him, so that we can experience His peace, His love, His Grace.
This summer let’s relax at the lake, or go on vacation, or even just relax at a back yard cook out and other wonderful things that God may have in store for us. And as we seek to rest and relax may we keep aware that the greatest peace we ever feel is when we are resting with the Lord.
When we live our lives with a sense that He is caring for us, leading us, loving us, and calling us deeper into union with Him, we can then truly find the rest that we desire. When we feel at peace with God, we can be the people He wants us to be. This summer amid the many ways that we seek to enjoy life, may we not neglect that which can give us a deeper peace. Spend an hour in Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, or simply come to Mass each Sunday, or offer quiet prayer at home, or do spiritual readings. These are gifts of peace that can re-invigorate and renew our souls even better than a vacation or other activities that we enjoy! May we all rest and relax with the Lord this summer and know His love for us!
God Bless your summer rest!
