Order of Christian Initiation of Adults
“The sacraments of Christian initiation - Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist - lay the foundations of every Christian life. "The sharing in the divine nature given to men through the grace of Christ bears a certain likeness to the origin, development, and nourishing of natural life. The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. By means of these sacraments of Christian initiation, they thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity." -Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1212
The OCIA is a process of adult initiation into full communion with the Catholic Church. Typically beginning in September, and culminating at the Easter Vigil, candidates for entry into the Catholic Church go through instruction and preparation that serves to educate them about the Catholic faith. This initiation takes place through four phases: a period of Inquiry which introduces the candidates to the basics of the Catholic faith; a period of Catechumenate, which involves more intense study of the sacraments and sacramental nature of the Church; a period of Enlightenment which involves the last weeks of prayer and study in preparation for reception into the Church; and a period of Mystagogy which focuses on the ongoing conversion that constitutes the heart of Catholic living.
2024 OCIA begins Thursday, November 7 at 6:30 pm in Rooms 107-108
