Lenten Almsgiving: Lakes Area Life Center & Alexandra House

Next weekend we’ll have our final special almsgiving collection for the Lenten Season to support women in crisis and their children. The Lakes Life Care Center supports women in crisis pregnancies so that they have the assistance that they need to bring their child to birth as well as supporting them after their child arrives. The collection will also support the Alexandra House which offers a safe place for women and children to find shelter who are in abusive relationships and need protective help.

Almsgiving is a Lenten discipline in which we both help others in need, while finding purification for our souls from our sins. Thank you for your generosity to those in need, and for your sacrificial giving which helps us on our way to salvation.

Lenten Day of Reflection this Tuesday, April 1

This Tuesday, April 1, we’ll have a Lenten morning of reflection. It starts at 9:00 AM with Mass in the Main Church, followed by a talk by Fr. Deziel with small group discussion and reflection. The morning concludes with a Holy Hour, confessions, rosary, and Benediction, followed by lunch in the Great Hall. Please join us for this prayerful Lenten morning that promises to help us enter more deeply into our Lenten journey! All are welcome!

Last Fish Fry this Friday!

This Friday we’ll have our last Fish fry of the Lenten Season! Lent goes by Fast! If you’re still pondering what to do for Lent, it’s high time to figure it out as Lent is now half over! I thank the Knights of Columbus and the Men’s Group, and all those who have worked so hard to make our fish fry so special! We are truly blessed here at St. Joe’s and I feel so bless to be a part of our parish!

Swing Dance is a Hoot!

Last Saturday we had our last Swing Dance of the year, with the terrific “Saints of Swing” Band. Most of the band members belong to our parish and the dances are a fundraiser for our parish. Some of my family members came to the dance and really enjoyed it! It really is fun for all ages as there’s plenty of slower tunes which older folks appreciate, as well as some quicker tempos that really get you moving. The music is mostly from the days of Frank Sinatra and the Big Band Sounds of the 40’s and 50’s. Even if you don’t like to dance, the music is fun to enjoy. The band will treat us next with their talent at our parish summer festival in August, and then they’ll start the season for next year. Thank you Saints of Swing! You truly are a gem of our parish life!

Lenten Blessings,

Fr. Bill Deziel
