New Bishop Announced

New Bishop Announced!

On July 25 the Vatican announced that Pope Francis has chosen Father Kevin Kenney to be an auxiliary bishop for our Archdiocese. This is fabulous news! He will join Bishop Michael Izen as assistant bishop to Archbishop Bernard Hebda. You may recall that Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Williams is leaving to serve as Co-Adjutor bishop for the Camden, New Jersey Diocese. He will serve alongside their current bishop before becoming the bishop of that diocese when their bishop retires in about a year.

That left a need for an assistant bishop to help Archbishop Hebda with the tremendous load of responsibilities that he has with our large Archdiocese.

Fr. Kevin Kenney will make an excellent bishop! I have known him for over 30 years going back to our seminary days. He currently serves as pastor of St. Olaf in Downtown Minneapolis. Fluent in Spanish, he has led the Archdiocese’s Latino ministries for many years and served as pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe in St. Paul. He has had a variety of assignments at both urban and suburban parishes, and served the archdiocese in other ways as well. Check out the archdiocese website, or the Catholic Spirit for more about him.

Please pray for Bishop Elect Kenney as he takes on this new role, and let us all offer prayers of gratitude to God for sending us another shepherd! God is so good!

Pastor Installation Mass, August 4, 2024

This Sunday we welcome Father T.J. McKenzie to our10:00 am Mass to officially install me as your pastor. Fr. McKenzie is pastor of St. Pius X parish in White Bear Lake. And as the appointed dean for our area, he has been authorized by the archbishop to celebrate the installation rite. I thank him for joining us, and I look forward to this wonderful celebration of our parish community. Next week we look forward to our summer festival! We have so much to celebrate! May God bless our parish and archdiocese!

Your Servant in Christ,

Fr. Deziel
