Blessed Is The One Who Trusts In The Lord

During whatever show I was watching a commercial for Cindy Crawford’s “Meaningful Beauty Anti-Aging serum” began it’s wearying promises of a youth activating serum that comes from some melon grown in southern France. It shows a remarkable comparison between a regular cantaloupe and this cantaloupe looking melon that contains an anti-aging molecule in which the “normal” melon shrivels up over time while the special melon maintains it’s fresh appearance. Cindy has a product that contains this anti-aging molecule (which is never named or scientifically identified) that can be used to reverse the effects of aging on the skin allowing people who are in their fifties to appear younger. To me it is yet another example of the sales of snake oil and other miracle cures that promise results that the medical community could never provide.

I am sure that there will be those who use this product (and others like it) who will challenge my criticism. I am not trying to dispute the effectiveness of any such thing, but I find all of them to be attempts to control our health, appearance, emotional or psychological status.

Jeremiah has something to say to any and all of us who get caught up in these schemes:

“Cursed is the one who trusts in human beings, who seeks his strength in flesh, whose heart turns away from the LORD. He is like a barren bush in the desert that enjoys no change of season, but stands in a lava waste, a salt and    empty earth.

Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose hope is the LORD. He is like a tree planted beside the waters that stretches out its roots to the stream: it fears not the heat when it comes; it’s leaves stay green; in the year of drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit.”
