Celebrating Our Community

I know I am being presumptuous but I have always considered our parish festival THE kick-off event for the Lino Lakes Blue Heron Days. Ours is a great gathering of many differentmembers, neighbors, friends and alumni to celebrate ourcommunity and to enjoy each other’s company. It seemed very strange last year not to have any kind of celebration both for our parish and for the local community. I am grateful that we are emerging from that isolation and are finding our way back to each other. This is true for our normal congregation (there are still parishioners returning) and I think it will be true for our local community as we gather.

I was surprised that this year although there is a “Blue Heron Days” parade the entire weekend event has changed its title to the Quad Area Family Funfest.  In looking at the Web Site many of the activities will be taking place at the Centennial schools and the American Legion 566. On Thursday, Aug 19 there will be a car show at Centennial high school along with assorted food trucks. The parade is on Saturday, August 20, and is taking the traditional route down Lake Drive.  On the same day The Chain of Lakes Rotary is sponsoring the Officer Silvera/Rotary 5K as well as a number of events on the Community green (in front of the former YMCA building).

These are great days in which we as a faith community and as a civil community are mixing together to celebrate this wonderful community that we form. I will be traveling on that weekend, (I will tell you more next bulletin) but I hope you have a great time celebrating our community, both next weekend at the St. Joe’s Summer Festival and later in August at the Family Funfest!
