From the First Eucharist Retreat

Over 70 of our 2nd grade children preparing for their First Eucharist joined together this past Saturday for our First Eucharist Retreat. Thank you to the parents/guardians for volunteering by serving as group leaders and leading the five activity stations; Bread Making, Centering Prayer/Letter to Jesus, Church Tour, Rosary, and Host and Wine Tasting. The First Eucharist Masses are Saturday, April 29 at 5:00 pm and Sunday, April 30 at 10:00 am. Each child made a banner to celebrate this upcoming event. Please look for their banners in the Gathering Space in the weeks to come.

We love kids—they say the most innocent and funniest things…Here are a few of our favorites from the Retreat: After tasting the wine:

  • “Do the police know that we are drinking wine?  Are we going to get into trouble?”
  • “That tastes like grape juice with alcohol”
  • “I’d rather have a beer”

Tour of the Church referencing the Tabernacle…

  • “That must be the dishwasher…people are always moving dishes in and out of it”
  • “…or a fancy shoe box.”

Seeing where the unconsecrated hosts and wine are kept…

  • “can I take a bottle of wine home for my mom?  She loves red wine!”
  • “…my mom does too!”

And my personal favorite, referring to the Perpetual Light….

  • “who makes sure the light doesn’t go out?”

It is up to all of us to make sure that the Light of Jesus is always shining in our hearts. Thank you to the Parish Community for your continued support for all of the children at St. Joe’s who will be joining us at the Lord’s Table in a few weeks and all the children around the world that help make the Light of Jesus shine so bright!
